DEDICATION SERIES

SUMMER 2019

Kaitlin Lee Garza is an American painter and illustrator who's work explores themes of coming to terms with her sexuality, overcoming trauma and sexual abuse, and coping with the mental and physical effects of epilepsy and other medical diagnoses.

In her new series (The Dedication Series, 2019) Lee Garza aims to restore dignity to herself by calling out those who have inflicted pain and caused traumatic experiences during her childhood that lead to long term depression and anxiety that she has recently overcome after years of extensive therapy and treatment.

Her work is both abstract and tactile, emphasizing the relationship between the subjective mind and the objective body that is thrown into question through the lens of disease and trauma. Her experience with popular arts and illustration informs the bold colors and graphic design of her work, while her use of everyday objects and textures creates an intimacy that recalls Neodadaism.
